Jul 07, Sarah rated it it was amazing. Probably some juvenile imprinting left over from when I first picked these up as a pubescent reader more intent on devouring what my dad - a Green Beret- referred to as "that trash".

He was always trying to tempt me with some non-fiction historical tome or technical manual. I however would not be swayed from my deliciously escapist guilty pleasure of this tragic hero assassin trying to piece together his life in the midst of betrayal all around him. My first introduction to Ludlum.

The Bourne Identity (Bourne Trilogy No.1)

As with a Probably some juvenile imprinting left over from when I first picked these up as a pubescent reader more intent on devouring what my dad - a Green Beret- referred to as "that trash". As with any gateway drug, I was hooked! Thru the years I've always had my dog-eared copies of these with me. They are my old friends by now.

Familiar, but always a satisfying read for me. Kind of twisty, but okay. Aug 03, Anne Bonney rated it really liked it. Really enjoyed the Bourne books - read them again recently - so much better than the films. Matt Damon does a good job of playing Bourne, but they changed the storeylines far too much for my liking.

Personally, I found this annoying. I also find it annoying when characters are professing their undying love after knowing each other for two days. My ability to follow action in the written form is limited. So I found that I would skip through a lot of these parts.

Ultimately, Overall, the book could be entertaining.

Ultimately, I think I probably would have enjoyed this book a bit more if I knew nothing about the movies. But it was a good read. Read this in the 80s I remember it being MUCH better in the 80s. The Bourne Identity minutes 7 words Man, mystery, lost memory, action, secret, Woman, escape Questions 1.

In this book, the main character lost his memory because of accident. He never remember even his name. So, he seek who he is. If you lose your memory, what are you going to do? I think I am very confused if I lose my memory. But I think, same as main character, I want to know who I am.

The main character tried to escape from someone because he was aimed by someone who knows about accident. In the middle of the story, a lady helped him escape. The main character hitchhiked to Paris.

If you really want to go somewhere and you don't have a car, can you hitchhike? I cannot do that. In Japan, most people hardly hitchhike to somewhere. And also if I go abroad, hitchhike is more dangerous than Japan, so I won't do that.

The first starts out very similar to the film with a man found in the sea who doesn't remember who he is, and that's about it. The plot is very different to the film so I think you have to judge them as separate from one another.

I actually enjoyed both versions.

For me the first on the trilogy was the best, followed by the last with supremacy bringing up the rear. I would definitely read more by this author as well as watch the next instalment of the film out next month! Being a big fan of the Bourne movies I thought I would give the books a read as well.

I am glad I did not read the books first as they are vastly different from the movies. Plot, characters, era that they take place, are all different.

The story in the books, is a story during the cold war.

None of today's technology but rather the tech of the 70's and 80's. The story is very good and the books kept my attention throughout. The pacing was good, as well as the writing. I found the repetition of so Being a big fan of the Bourne movies I thought I would give the books a read as well.

I found the repetition of some of the dialoge in the first book to be a little bit much, but it didn't detract from the overall story. There are better thrillers out there but these do rank up towards the top! Feb 20, Samuel Fitzgerald rated it it was amazing. If I know that there's a movie based on a book, I'll try to watch the movie first. Reason being, for me anyway, is that the book is always better and it might jade my thinking and I'll be disappointed in a movie that I otherwise might've liked.

The movie credits where Ludlum is mentioned is what actually turned me on to the Bourne novels. The books and the films differ, but I thoroughly enjoyed each respectively. I've seen the films countless times and it never gets old to me.

I really enjoyed t If I know that there's a movie based on a book, I'll try to watch the movie first. I really enjoyed the novels too. Ludlum has become a literary hero to me. I've read several of his novels and some are better than others, but they never disappoint. May 06, R. Great plots, good characterization though with some parts that seem out of character , but the writing is very poor.

Too long-winded especially the first book, The Bourne Identity , poor pacing at times, repetitious in places, particularly in the interior monologue, which doesn't come across as authentic. Tries to give a sense of what the amnesia is like, but fails.

I almost gave up on it part way through the first book. If anyone but a big name author had submitted it, it never would have seen Great plots, good characterization though with some parts that seem out of character , but the writing is very poor. I absolutely love the movies and the books are totally different of course. I have some mixed emotions so far, I'm hoping this will change as I get deeper into the trilogy, but at the moment I feel cheated by the movies and yet greatful at the same time.

I can't help but think to myself, is this really necessary for me to know this much detail? But I Seriously having some issues getting into this trilogy series. But I dutifully plug on in hopes of finally getting sucked in. Dec 27, David rated it liked it. Much dryer than the movies, but somehow retains the action and intensity.
