One the of the books i used throughout my studies was How to Program C With. This book gives detailed tutorials and explainations on just about every aspect of C. It's just the basics, but better you start somewhere than nowhere. Sorry but i think Professional C by Wrox press is a terrible book. The materials presented are too simplistic and inconsistent. Its a big book with alot of pages but most of the code samples and important concepts need clarification.

It has well defined examples of code, all presented in the form of games that make the book interesting to younger readers. I agree! One thing nice about paper is you can make notes. Can you do that in a E Book? I have no idea. These are my recommandation, at least for advanced.
