IMHO, if you want to learn the language, buy a book that teaches you the language versus building Windows applications.
Don't get me wrong, eventually things like WinForms and WebForms are what you may want to learn but getting a solid foundation in the language is essential. I have to admit that this book is a pretty good read even though I chose to re-read over some earlier chapters to make sure I understood the topics.
Highly recommended!! I have also been interested in Wrox Beginning books but most of the reviews I see on amazon are negative towards invalid code.

The Barnes and Noble Book: All the examples are short and straight to the point. And, so far, all the examples that I've tried have worked correctly, like there supposed too. One the of the books i used throughout my studies was How to Program C With. This book gives detailed tutorials and explainations on just about every aspect of C. It's just the basics, but better you start somewhere than nowhere. Sorry but i think Professional C by Wrox press is a terrible book. The materials presented are too simplistic and inconsistent. Its a big book with alot of pages but most of the code samples and important concepts need clarification.

It has well defined examples of code, all presented in the form of games that make the book interesting to younger readers. I agree! One thing nice about paper is you can make notes. Can you do that in a E Book? I have no idea. These are my recommandation, at least for advanced.

I'd say the best thing to do is go to your local Barnes and Noble or whichever bookstore you have nearby, set aside an afternoon, and thumb through all the available books until you find one you understand and feel offers the level of detail you need.
