He did not want to follow Orpheous to write all things he wanted. That was too danger for Fenoglio. There was a long conversation between Orpheous and Fenoglio. They argued each other about Mortimer, the story he supposed to write, Meggie, treasures, Dustfinger and many more. But, Orpheous left Fenoglio with nothing. Not even good news he got from the old-man, Fenoglio, the author of that story book which he really wanted to put all the treasure out of it.

The only one that Fenoglio wanted was Mortimer or Meggie to read his next story with their silvertongue, not Orpheous who always wanted him to write good things for his benefits. Then, Fenoglio was feeling sorry for himself, again. She got some information about how to pass the guards to enter to The Castle of The Night. He told Meggie to stay humble and submissive whatever the demand was. But Mortimer and Meggie were not too lucky that time.

The guards stopped them and checked them all. God was helping them. They passed it. They went into the castle through the marketplace. They saw a lot of children with no father, women and someone whom they would never forget, Sootbird, the betrayer. Sootbird was their friend. But he betrayed them and worked for the Piper who gave him silver and other valuable things as rewards.

Because of him, Dustfinger was dead and Farid had lost his enthusiasm for fire — eating. Mortimer and Meggie were riding horses with their black suits and nodded heads. The people of Ombra told them a lot of things about the sadness. There were kids with no fathers, beggar, women with no husbands, and many more. Mortimer was looking at the poor children with the very pity expression as if they did not eat all day.

Meggie was at all the way telling Mortimer to be very careful and aware. They reached the next gate before the main Castle of The Night. They finally met Fenoglio and Farid there. They were shocking Mortimer and Meggie. They thought that they wanted to catch them. Meggie was a bit shocked but happy because she could finally met Farid, her secret love. Meggie was complaining and she did not want to let Mortimer go without her and Farid.

But Mortimer told her again that Mortimer would be fine without her and even better to see her safe from the danger of the situation inside the castle. Mortimer went in with Fenoglio and passed the final guards in front of the main castle safely. Meggie was wondering about them.

She could once watch them and hear their voices. She was thinking that she would see Sootbird again by the gate. But she did not see him again.

He probably went out or in of The Castle of The Night anytime. But, Meggie refused it and stated to Farid clearly that she would not even move from Ombra without Mortimer and Fenoglio back. That was a very strong emotion from Meggie that Farid would never argue with.

He knew that Meggie would never say yes howsoever Farid tried to influence. And they were waiting for Fenoglio and Mortimer with some stories from Farid about things he had been doing with Orpheous.

A dangerous visit they had done, had given them a lot of troubles. It was started from their willing to come to The Castle of The Night to see Balbulus for his great paintings.

Their way into the castle was not so easy, until they could see Balbulus. What Meggie had said to Mortimer was totally right, Balbulus would never be tricked by their pretending. However they played the game, Balbulus had read a lot of story and had heard a lot of news about Mortimer and Fenoglio. That would be enough for Mortimer to realize that they were coming for their death for free will.

First, Mortimer should probably has known that the Adderhead was at any time waiting for the new bookbinder to solve trouble that he found on his books and to hang them for their incapability if they could not do so. Second, The Jacopo and Milksop who were always getting crazy to find the new bookbinders for some appreciation of the Adderhead and would never forgive some liars. What happened then was just something that Mortimer and Fenoglio considered as a dangerous visit that may end with death.

Mortimer was thinking about his second time risking himself for death. Balbulus was a great Illuminator. He could paint like the real story was put on his paintings. The only thing Mortimer wanted was just to see Balbulus and get what he wanted about his paintings. But, Mortimer should have regretted much for his idiot idea to come to that castle. Soldiers came and took them, Mortimer and Fenoglio, to somewhere that they never expected before.

That was a dangerous visit. Resa had been many times visiting Roxane for some sharing such as experiences and sorrow. The feeling of loss Roxane has was too deep for Resa to even imagine it. They were surprised and confused for their coming. Resa was asking herself whether something bad had happened to Mortimer. That was what she did not expect from their faces. The only thing she may feel that time was anger. She was angry with Mortimer for being so reckless. Mortimer had gone to the castle even he knew that it was too dangerous.

He had never said a word for his plan to Resa but Meggie. Resa regretted much. Resa was too tired of feeling afraid. That was the loss of a lovely husband, Dustfinger. What people thought about Mortimer with his plan to see Balbulus paintings was a bit weird. But that was actually the true reason of his. His bravery to set that plan had put Mortimer in trouble while his wife, Resa, and his daughter, Meggie, worried a lot about him then.

What he wanted finally came true. Mortimer had met Balbulus and his beautiful paintings in the castle. First thing that Mortimer was thinking was just about death and death again. He talked a lot of things with Violante, who was famous with her ugliness. Violante had told Mortimer about her father, his anger to Mortimer, and his willing to get Mortimer back as his bookbinder.

Violante offered Mortimer some deals about that whether Mortimer will help her to kill his father or not. They were both on the same page. They did not want to let Adderhead kill more bookbinders in Ombra. So they dealt about it. There was no other choice for Mortimer but agreeing that offers.

Suddenly, Jacopo and Sootbird came to the dead room where Mortimer was in. They were looking for Mortimer, the Bluejay. That was a good reason for Jacopo to trust her. Soon, Jacopo set orders to all guards in the castle to lower down and close all the gates in the castle in order not to let anyone in or out of the castle.

And then he did. They led Mortimer out of the castle through the secret exit which no one ever knew but Violante. They gave some things to Mortimer from Violante, such as saddlebags, horse, and some books which had been made in the hope that Mortimer would accept the alliance she offers him in the dead room. The passage was endless, almost as oppressively narrow as the sarcophagus, and Mortimer was glad when at last he saw the light of day again.

The way out was little more than a crack between a couple of rocks. The horse was waiting under the trees, and he saw Ombra castle, the guards on the walls, the soldiers and the gates. Nothing they would probably do to face that complicated situation but moving to new camp for them to hide again. Resa was too worried about Mortimer as they had been many times separated by the same situation.

Meggie was with farid. They tried to calm Resa. Fenoglio was doing the same. Gecko and his crows which ordered to spy and to find news about Mortimer from the castle went back to the camp with nothing. No one knew how Mortimer was doing then. Everything they had done to calm Resa.

They told Resa that everything would probably be okay. Mortimer was the Bluejay and they were his soldiers, his companion. Resa could not sleep or even stay with no sadness in her heart. Mortimer finally came back to their camp as if nothing had happened to him. All people were surprised because he was not even injured. Nothing was more beautiful than happiness among their faces that time. Mortimer brought Resa and Meggie 2 books.

Resa was all around with her question to Mortimer whether he wanted to go home or not. And she asked the same to Meggie. He had stopped writing since troubles came and went to his life. That was it. Mortimer was alive and harmony came back to his family as if nothing had happened. Elinor had read countless stories which in all of the stories she really enjoyed some interesting points.

Those were so deep emotional stories for Elinor to read. She could not deny that she was still sick with longing and there was no pill could cure her.

How many books she had read would never be curing her sick.

She personally thought that a longing for books was nothing compared to what she could feel for human being. The books told her about that feeling. Books could speak about love and happiness but books could not hug her like Resa, they could not laugh like Mortimer, and could not kiss her like Meggie. She thought that she was a poor woman with poor books.

Besides, Darius was the only friend who cared her. He was trying his best to cure her sick with longing by giving some books suggestions, offering some walks out, and serving her favourite lemon tea with honey every morning.

But Elinor was full of sad feeling in her heart. She was so sensitive. Once when she saw Darius touched a glass case with the paper inside, she asked horrified about what Darius was going to do with that paper inside. She called him a parasite. However, Elinor was having too deep feeling of sick with longing. That time was truly hard for her to live without Mortimer, Resa, and Meggie around.

He went to Ombra and he had to pass the guards for several times. No one let him into Ombra. Until he showed them his ability like what Dustfinger did when he was still alive. He made some fire shows by his hand just to satisfy the guards so that they could let him in with his donkey. Farid finally went into Ombra and straight he approached Orpheous house. Brianna and Farid were not too good in friendship.

Brianna mostly kept silent and did not talk more than what she needed. Different from Brianna, there was also Oss, Orpheous servant who had been waiting for Farid since his leaving for Fenoglio. Orpheous disliked them both much. They argued many things like how they would end up in the story and how Fenoglio would write his next story.

Farid was so curious to know more, so he decided to start learning the way to read books. He found it so hard to do. Something that he had to realize was he was back in the service of Orpheous. Farid and the glass man went to the kitchen to make some tea for Orpheous.

He was telling the glass man not to be scared of Jink. Jink liked to chase the glass man but it would never eat him. Usually Orpheous told Farid to go to physician who lived beyond the city gate but not for that time. They just made tea for Orpheous with roast gold-mockers filled with chocolate.

When they wanted to return to Orpheous room, Farid stopped awhile. There was Brianna asking whom the tea was for. And Farid told her that the tea was for Orpheous who was having a stomachache.

Then, Brianna made an herbal medicine for Orpheous quickly and told Farid to deliver it to Orpheous. While preparing the herbs, Farid was staring at Briana seriously.

He remembered Dustfinger. With the bad look, Brianna told him to stop and not to remind her about Dustfinger, her father. Brianna scolded at him angrily. Farid went away to Orpheous room and gave the herbs as she ordered. There were no worries about anything.

Life was normal. Resa was happy with the unborn child in her belly. Meggie could smile more often even Farid was still with Orpheous. Mortimer and other robbers could enjoy the songs from the strong man about the Bluejay while sitting around the fire. But suddenly everything turned into bad when Doria came and told them a bad news. He came straight to the Black Prince as if he wanted everyone TO be noticed that he came for something truly bad. He brought bad news from Ombra.

The pipers who were sent by the Castle of Night came to Wayless Wood yesterday and took all children over six years old.

The Black Prince and all who were there had known that children were like flies. They were many, especially the orphans. They lived with no fathers. Some speculation existed.

Perhaps they were going to use them for the gold mining in Ombra. People knew that there were a lot of people died already for the gold mining in Ombra. The Black Prince could not let this end up with the same stories as before.

They knew that The Adder was immortal. The Milksop, his brother in law, hung at least one of the soldiers almost every day. The Bluejay rode to Ombra and returned unharmed. Some odd things were filling their minds. They considered doing some action against The Adder. Mortimer was on the same page as The Black Prince. Meggie did not really know how they should do the plan again like.

Resa was all about her worries of Mortimer. She did not want to lose him again. She sometimes thought about their lives in real world. She missed Elinor very much. She really missed her kitchen which was full of stuffs, her library with full of books, and the garden where Mortimer used to have his workshop. But the bad news from Ombra seemed telling her that they would need more time to stay in that bad story of Ombra.

Days and months were passing by. Mo was with his power to finish the story of Ink World while Meggie was with her longing of Farid. They did not seem enjoying their stay in Ink World. Whatsoever the happiness they got in the Ink World, none of it could be as happy as their previous life in the real world. It felt like so harming for Resa. When she would have new baby, she must get this sad feeling.

Many times she tried to talk to Mortimer about that horrifying feeling. Unfortunately, Meggie was always listening to what they talked about. The points of every single conversation let Meggie conclude that her father, Mortimer did not want to leave Ink World not because he liked to stay and enjoyed living there, but the thing was because Fenoglio did not want to write them back to the real world again.

Besides, there were some problems that Mortimer had to finish in the Ink World. As a wife, Resa did all to force Mortimer to return to their real life. Between cries and sadness she could not avoid her tears falling.

Until finally she cried with the red nose and swollen eyes and cowered the dog Orpheous dog in alarm. Only books, chairs where meggie usually sat down, bookshelves where usually Mortimer and Resa spent their time stood and read books. Darius finally came and tried to encourage Elinor. Elinor wiped her bitter tears and started talking to Darius about her crying reasons. And some questions were asked by Elinor to Darius, rhetorical but quite difficult for Darius to answer.

He finally disappeared into the kitchen making some hot tea with honey for Elinor. Checked by Mr. Irwan Sulistyo S. Mortimer was just leaving his wife, Resa and his daughter, Meggie in a deserted farm where the Black Prince found for them instead of Robbers camp to stay in.

They were sleeping as Mortimer thought and hoped. In that cold night Mortimer who had a famous name in the Inkworld as Bluejay, with The Black Prince and robbers were helping the villagers in hiding their livestock and provisions underground.

They were too late actually, but there were still remaining some potatoes and other livestock to hide. Finally a tinge of red showing in the night sky, and Mortimer thought that he heard hoof beats. Horsemen at least a dozen or more were coming from the Ombra, the castle where Mortimer and his companion were kidnapped and arrested by Adderhead.

A tangible night turned into a bloody fight between the Mortimers and Adderheads. He spent a very hard time to save people, village and farms. His clothes were full of red blood of his enemies. He thought back about his wife and daughter and hoped that they slept well with some friends watch. Badly, 2 of the Mortimers were killed and they have no time to bury them. Night almost ended. Mortimer was going through the dark to come back to his wife and daughter.

With the Black Prince and his bear, he cleaned the bloods and washed away some cuts on his fore arms in a well. He gave the water to bear and The Black Prince. He thought that he could not come back to his wife and daughter showing his cuts in his fore arms, so he suddenly converted himself into the workshop, and put the black clothes instead.

They fit perfectly. He came to his wife and joined them in a deserted farm to sleep and to spend the rest of the night with them. His wife were standing in the open doorway rubbing sleep from her eyes and asked him what was happening to his clothes. And Mortimer with his own story told Resa his Bookbinder outfit from Battista without fight part or the worse thing he had passed that morning.

And he turned the talk to their new baby that Resa had actually told Mortimer about. All had happened was about the peaceful days after finally turned into the bloody nights. Yes, because Milksop, the new governor liked hanging men and taking their hair for his wigs. That was what folk has told in Ombra. Days and nights with Orpheous were just like a life in a jail. He, Orpheous, always got him to dig up for the silver which buried under the soil, under the gallows with dead body hung.

Farid was complaining many times to Orpheus. Orpheous did not give any satisfying response or answer when Farid asked him to send Dustfinger back from his death as Orpheous has said before taking Farid as his companion to the Inkworld. The only thing then Farid thought was all about Orpheous, the liar who lied and has been jailed for his lies and would end up again there. Furthermore, He took one bodyguard, Oss, from the marketplace just to save him. It drove Farid so crazy.

Oss was like his enemy, eating his food like a greedy monster, so sometimes for Farid that was better sleeping with his empty stomach. But many times Farid complained about Oss to Orpheous.

Life went by in Inkworld days and nights just the same like in jail for Farid, until he finally got the answer from every short conversation, from every way Orpheous answered the same question Farid gave him, and from the way he treated him like hostage.

Once or twice Orpheous was curious about Fenoglio, the old man who has written the whole story about Inkworld included him and other characters about his next idea to put to the story. Farid was out of his mind about that. Life went by in Inkworld with just the same days and nights. Farid was thinking about who could send Dustfinger back from death, Orpheous, with his greedy life of silver with the stupid monster called Oss.

That morning meant so different to Meggie. The silence and the air totally put her in such of different world even actually she was. Meggie knew her mother, Elinor, was sick for a couple of days and she got her face so pale as if she did not eat for days.

Mortimer, her father, woke up even earlier than them. Meggie was thinking about Farid, his fellow special fellow. She missed him much. Few days for Meggie without Farid were so hard and meaningless. She left Farid for something like 12 days already. But that was fine. She thought that she had to do things even more important with her family in Ombra, Inkworld.

Even the Ombra was ruled by Adderhead, the one who had once kidnapped Mortimer for some reasons. She really missed him a lot. Well, in this chapter, Mortimer made plan to go back to The Castle of The Night, Ombra, where he could find Balbulus, another important man in Inkworld about bookbinding. Mortimer did not realize that his daughter knew his plan. The only thing he could do was just pretending not to go anywhere. But, Meggie could not be so easy to accept it.

Meggie was so surprised. She seriously did not want him to do that plan, alone. She forced Mortimer to take her with him to Ombra without any reasons to reject. Mortimer could not say anything than telling her how angry her mother, Resa, would be if she knew that Mortimer put her daughter in danger.

Mortimer knew what she meant really well about this blackmail. They went there as if nothing was to worry about.

There was actually one more thing why they felt so happy about that morning. It was about Resa. They were happy because Resa was sick. It meant that Meggie would have a new friend in her family because Resa was in pregnancy. He had done many problems in his own book.

He was living with a creature he had put in the story, a glass-man, Rosenquartz. Orpheous was another silvertongue who had made the fairies in all colours of rainbow. That was so worse. Fenoglio sent Rosenquartz to spy Orpheous everyday even he knew that all glass-men were interested to chase glass-women, not to spy.

Fenoglio got not too many information from his stupid little spy but that was a bit helping Fenoglio to find out what Orpheus was doing since he did not write again. For Fenoglio the most important one for his next life story was Mortimer or Meggie, to help him back to the real life and to fix the problems they have made in Inkworld. Even actually that place was too danger for both, Meggie and Mortimer. Fenoglio was thinking again and again about what he supposed to do, while Orpheous knew his spy, Rosenquarts, who was caught spying Orpheous activity with the book.

He knocked many times as if he knew that Fenoglio was there with his stupid spy, Rosenquartz. They were words-fighting about the book. Fenoglio decided not to write anymore. But Orpheous influenced him to do it again for his better life. Fenoglio stayed with his decision not to write anymore.
